Banking Circle is empowering financial institutions to support their customers’ international trading ambitions, without the need for multiple banking relationships, whilst reducing risk and the operational cost of transactions. Businesses that were previously financially excluded are now able to participate in the digital economy in a way which was not previously possible.
Currently, Banking Circle consists of 400 people with 41 different nationalities spanning across their offices in Luxembourg, Denmark, UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
Department
As a part of the Data Engineering Department, you will be a part of a highly skilled team of Data Engineers, who’s main task is to build and relentless evolve the data platform. The data platform is built upon Azure Cloud. The team works with big data sets every day and has a recent record of handling 920.000 transactions in one day and expects to grow in volume the next year. This rapid growth is causing new and interesting challenges within Data Engineering.
The team consists of 8 Data Engineers, who represents both junior and senior profiles and they are looking to grow significantly within the next year. They are all based at the office in Copenhagen, but they have a very flexible culture where it is possible to work from home 2-3 days a week.
The team works within the Scrum framework with iterations and sprints. Furthermore, the teams’ goals and delivery are measured based on team effort, which promotes team spirit and collaboration.
The culture in Banking Circle is characterized by an informal, international, and diverse environment. The organisation isn’t that static, which means there is still plenty of room for new ideas and thinking outside the box, and quickly turning ideas into action.
The position
Banking Circle is looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer, who is eager to participate in building the next generation of their data platform on azure cloud. The data engineer team owns the existing platform, which is closely coupled to our legacy payment processing system. The whole system landscape is being replaced with state-of-the-art services, more and more data sources are coming online and has increased the need for a new decoupled and near real time data platform across all data assets. Therefore, you will take part in building a Data Platform that takes this need into account and takes it to the next level.
The tech stack that you will be working with include Python (lots of PySpark), Azure functions, Databricks, Data Lake on Azure Data Lake storage, Azure SQL, Tableau/PowerBI, and Terraform for infrastructure as code, but the stack will also evolve over time as needed.
As a Senior Data Engineer at Banking Circle, you will also have a lot of influence on the data architecture as they don’t have separate data architects. Furthermore, the main part of you work will be focused on building Banking Circles Data Platform and improving the existing Platform and Pipelines for reporting and analytics. One of your responsibilities will also be to take lead on small deliveries and Initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Build our Data Platform in python in collaboration with peers
- Taking the lead on deliveries and initiatives
- Clarify requirements and needs in collaboration with PO’s and other relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the team’s way of working and tech stack
- Participate in planning, stand-up, and retrospective
- Nurture growth of less senior team members
Requirements
Technical experience:
- A solid knowledge and experience with Python, Spark/Databricks and SQL
- A demonstrated capability from a similar role to build data platforms on cloud (AWS or Azure) for reporting and analytics
- Approximately +5 years of experience within the Data field
- An ability to pick up any new language or tool
- Good engineering mindset and a lot of curiosity
