Organisation Udviklings- og Forenklingsstyrelsen

The Danish Agency for Development and Simplification (Udviklings- og Forenklingsstyrelsen, UFST) is part of the Danish Ministry of Taxation’s group of agencies and collaborates closely with the other agencies in the group. UFST has around 1,700 employees and offices in Copenhagen, Middelfart, and Aalborg.

UFST develops, operates, and maintains new and existing IT systems so that they are stable, secure, and cost-effective. They place great emphasis on creating solutions that are data- and analytics-driven, that create value for the Danish Tax Administration, and that support taxes and duties being paid correctly and on time.

UFST is responsible for running IT development projects and for ensuring a transparent basis for IT prioritisation across the Tax Administration, as well as for modernising, reducing technical debt, and making optimal use of the market.

The department

The department consists of 25 employees across 3 teams, who manage the portfolio for Business Reporting Systems at UFST, with the purpose of ensuring operation, development, and maintenance of the IT systems relating to tax-relevant data, both nationally and internationally.

UFST’s ambition is to digitalise and modernise solutions for automatic exchange of information with the rest of the world in order to prevent tax evasion, as well as to develop solutions for reporting financial information from third parties, to support simple and correct tax assessment and collection, and to facilitate efficient control.

The team

As Technical Tester, you will join a team of skilled colleagues who both develop new systems and are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and further development of recently developed systems supporting case handling of tax-related efforts for citizens and businesses. The team takes ownership of their solutions all the way into production, and is therefore ambitious about the solutions they deliver.

You will also join a team that embraces innovation, which is reflected in, among other things, the department’s hackathons.

Development takes place in iterations based on SCRUM and SAFe, with daily standups, ongoing evaluations, and deliveries across many rolling releases. The team owns its own process and can therefore shape the details of it.

UFST’s employees are professionally competent and specialised, while also being able to work closely with other disciplines across the Ministry of Taxation. There is also a strong belief that a strong professional community across disciplines is key to succeeding with their extensive and complex task.

The role as Technical Tester

As Technical Tester, you get a broad and challenging portfolio of tasks, helping ensure the quality of IT systems that support reporting, exchange, and control. Overall, in this role you will contribute to the team’s quality assurance of developed functionality through test automation, and be responsible for ensuring that the business’s requirements for the solutions are covered by test activities.

The team currently has three solutions in operation and several more on the way. In this role, you will take care of and be responsible for the quality assurance of these critical solutions, including maintaining the test suite and developing test code. You will join an exciting, modern DevOps setup that is fully automated for testing (TestOps). It is therefore also important that you have prior experience with an automated setup.

You will have the opportunity to bring existing business understanding into play, as well as acquire new competencies within both the business area and technology, architecture, and code. There is also a particular focus on automated testing in order to bridge the gap between the technical implementation and reporting to the business.

As Technical Tester, you also have a particularly important responsibility for ensuring that the necessary and sufficient test activities help support that the delivered solutions are secure, stable, agile, and meet both functional and non-functional requirements. You will have tasks within test management and test implementation in a department that thinks code-first when it comes to testing. In this context, you play a particularly important role in designing, setting up, and structuring CI/CD together with the team, so that the release process is structured and streamlined.

Areas of responsibility

  • Preparing user stories, tasks, bug reports, and, where necessary, risk-based test designs
  • Participation in and execution of meetings within the team’s cadence, including ongoing standups and retrospectives
  • Communicating the test strategy for the test architecture to the team, including when to use the different test types and approaches, for example system tests, integration tests, unit tests, etc.
  • Preparing test documentation, including establishing correlation between business needs and testing, as well as ensuring technical documentation
  • Contributing to the overall test strategy in the department, together with other technical testers
  • Test responsibility and quality assurance thereof

Requirements

Your educational background is not decisive, but it is an advantage if you have a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree.

For this position, it is important that you have:

  • Experience as a developer or technical tester, having developed in Java, Spock, or Groovy
  • A particular interest in test automation and quality assurance, with around three years or more of experience that you can document
  • Experience with or knowledge of test management practices

In addition, it is an advantage if you have:

  • An ISTQB certification (“Advanced Technical Test Analyst”, “ISTQB Foundation”, “ISTQB Agile Extension”)
  • Experience with release management
