The department

In HPC & Hybrid Cloud Engineering, they enable and support the Digital Transformation of their global research organization by offering modern hybrid cloud technology platforms through Agile ways of working.

On the daily, you will be part of the Hybrid Storage & Compute team, responsible for developing and maintaining hybrid cloud infrastructure – on-premises and in the cloud. The team consists of 10 highly competent colleagues within infrastructure engineering and management, and they take pride in supporting researchers and scientists with the best technologies. The team offers services within, among others, storage, hosting, monitoring, and server management.

The scientific users are situated globally, and you will therefore be working in an international environment with colleagues around the globe.

What you will be doing

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will help the company continue its cloud journey by building new end-to-end digital solutions leveraging cloud storage capabilities, optimising current storage systems, and securing infrastructure. You will be a key driver in identifying the correct storage system based on the research organisation’s needs, creating new storage products from scratch and defining their features. Therefore, an important skill is the ability to translate user requirements into technical specifications. Collaboration is a key part of the job, as you will be interacting with users, your teammates, other delivery teams, and vendors, e.g. AWS. Moreover, troubleshooting on large-scale systems is also part of your responsibility.

In this role, you will have a significant impact on how the company operates, as they expect you to help define and drive Fit for Purpose storage and infrastructure solutions across the organization. With an advisory function also part of your job, thinking strategically is an important characteristic, as you will play a key role in shaping the future storage solutions based on infrastructure services in AWS.

It’s expected that you bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or similar
• 2-3 years of work experience in AWS
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and/or optimizing cloud storage solutions for large amounts of data (hundreds of TB) and high-performance applications
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, Ansible)
• Experience with AWS cloud file systems
• Experience with stakeholder management
• Good English communication skills

You might even have experience/knowledge within some or all of the below-listed technologies:

• Serverless Computing, Network, and Security
• Python, Puppet, PowerShell, Bash, and CloudWatch
