The Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE) is Denmark’s foreign intelligence service and works — both covertly and openly — to protect Denmark and Danish interests in a changing world.

FE is not alone in protecting Denmark, but it is the only authority mandated to use highly specific means to uncover what other states and foreign actors try to keep secret. FE contributes to peace, safety, and security for Danes, both in the analogue and digital world, by uncovering, assessing, advising on, and countering both current and emerging threats. FE’s Centre for Cyber Security (CFCS) forms Denmark’s national defence against cyber threats and works towards a secure digital Denmark. CFCS helps detect and handle cyberattacks against Danish interests, and gathers, builds, and shares the knowledge that can prevent the next attack. CFCS’s culture is strongly shaped by this purpose, and it is clear to every employee that they make a difference when Denmark is exposed to cyber threats and attacks.

The department

CFCS/FE handles a wide range of tasks within cyber security, from threat assessments, incident handling, alerting, and advisory work to hands-on monitoring of data traffic, identification of threat actors, and operation of the situation centre — all with the purpose of preventing, countering, and protecting against cyberattacks on Denmark’s critical infrastructure. These activities are supported by a wide range of tools run by the IT organisation in collaboration with the organisation’s Product Owners.

As Product Owner, you will become part of a small team in CFCS, in a newly created section that is being built up. The section consists of you as business owner, other Product Owners, and two other business-support employees. The team works continuously to ensure that the skilled and highly specialised analysts have access to the best data solutions. Cutting-edge technologies and a wide range of data sources are used to prevent, counter, and protect authorities and companies against cyberattacks.

In this context, you will work with the team to help ensure that CFCS is as strong as possible when it comes to solutions within data and data analysis.

The team works closely together and relies on each other for professional sparring, with a strong professional community. Good colleagues and an informal tone also strongly characterise the team, who enjoy spending time together both professionally and socially.

The position

As Product Owner, you get a central role in contributing to the development and maintenance of CFCS’s business-critical systems within data and data analysis. You will get the opportunity to familiarise yourself with both technical and business challenges across a number of new and existing systems. The systems worked with are entirely unique and exist only at FE, so you are not expected to have prior knowledge or experience with them — rather, this is seen as an exciting area to step into.

As Product Owner, you will play a key role, acting as the link between the business and IT, helping create better processes and solutions. It is therefore important that you are curious and able to quickly get to grips with complex issues, and can communicate these both to management and to developers, so that areas for development are identified and implementable solutions can be created.

It is also essential for the role to have agile tools and processes in order, so the development team is supported through each sprint and reaches its goal. It will also be the Product Owner’s responsibility to adjust and optimise each iteration, manage and prioritise the backlog, and communicate progress to the business.

FE is looking for two Product Owners, one of whom will work on one of the large projects, which includes a new analytics platform with larger volumes of data currently being built up, while the other will work on other unique systems. It is worth emphasising that you will have plenty of opportunity to leave your mark and influence the project and the organisation going forward. CFCS is currently also building up several other new areas, which you will help shape.

Areas of responsibility

Your tasks will mainly lie within the following areas:

• Understanding and translating business needs into implementable solutions
• Identifying areas for development in business-critical systems
• Assessing and prioritising business needs, planning iterative development, and managing deviations from plans
• Supporting the development team in meeting the goal for each sprint
• Adjusting and optimising each iteration of the product before release
• Managing and prioritising the backlog
• Communicating development status to the business
• Coordinating the creation of help and training materials, to ensure new functionality delivers optimal business value
• Updating and quality-assuring documentation, including guides

Requirements

Your professional qualifications include:

• 5+ years of experience within IT, including experience with IT development and management of business-critical systems
• Previous experience in a Product Owner role, used to working in an organisation where agile (SCRUM) development of digital solutions is high on the agenda
• A structured approach to tasks, with commitment and strong collaboration skills that keep tasks moving forward at a high pace
• Not afraid to challenge yourself, your colleagues, and management in an environment characterised by many specialists, and willing to put in extra effort to solve business challenges in close collaboration with the development team
