About the department
Digital, Data & IT – Research & Early Development (DDIT-RED) supports the strategic digital transformation of the R&ED organisation needed to realise the company’s strategy, responsible for developing, implementing, operating, maintaining, and supporting the data, middleware, and IT infrastructure used by R&ED across on-premise and in the cloud. The company takes pride in being experts in IT infrastructure and platforms, while also having experience and understanding of how researchers use the platforms, data, and compute power made available.
About the position
As a Platform Engineer, you will play a crucial role in advancing the technology infrastructure. You’ll be at the forefront of building, coding, implementing, and maintaining containerised solutions, ensuring seamless deployment and scalability. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll contribute to the evolution of the platform, driving efficiency and innovation.
What you will do
- Build, implement, and manage containerised solutions, ensuring efficient deployment and scalability
- Collaborate with development and scientist teams to understand application requirements and provide guidance on containerisation best practices
- Manage container orchestration, optimising resource utilisation, deployment of applications, and ensuring the security and stability of containerised applications, with self-service for scientists deploying applications and models as containers
- Build CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, and publishing container images, contributing to the automation of deployment processes and participating in testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution
- Work with middleware implementing authentication and observability

About you
- Bachelor’s degree within natural sciences, engineering, computer science, or another relevant area, or equivalent work experience
- Experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role
- Demonstrated success in implementing and managing containerised solutions
- Proficiency in container orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with API testing and development
- Proactive approach, excellent communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work across teams and stakeholders
It would be an advantage to have knowledge or interest in cloud services (AWS EKS/ECR/IAM, Kubernetes, Azure AKS/Entra), infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation tools, Python, AWS CDK, and Terraform, along with a general motivation to stay up to date on the latest developments within the field.
