Novafos was formed in 2017 through the merger of six utility companies with around 350 employees. Novafos is today Denmark’s second-largest water and wastewater utility.

Novafos operates 17 waterworks producing around 17 million m3 of drinking water annually, and 18 treatment plants processing 24 million m3 of wastewater as well as around 1,300 pumping stations. In addition to daily operations, Novafos handles renovation and new construction of waterworks, treatment plants and pipe systems. Novafos currently has construction projects worth approximately DKK 900 million underway.

Novafos has a vision of creating an efficient and well-run shared utility in close collaboration with its owner municipalities, matching the efficiency requirements expected of the sector. Novafos aims to stay ahead on knowledge, working methods and technologies, while maintaining focus on safe and efficient operations as well as the owner municipalities’ environmental, climate and service goals.

The organisation is structured around the professional areas of Water, Wastewater Planning & Projects, Wastewater (the operating departments Drainage and Treatment) and Administration.

The department

The Planning, Treatment & Drainage department works on planning tasks relating to the management of rain and wastewater for the nine owner municipalities. The newly created position of Land Surveyor in the department is part of Novafos’ strategic goal of building an entirely new area of expertise in-house.

The Planning, Treatment & Drainage department consists of 65 highly qualified and creative employees across 5 teams, working on a wide range of planning tasks within wastewater and climate adaptation.

A larger group works on tasks related to the municipalities, climate and drainage planning, separate sewer systems, urban development, and citizen enquiries. 9 employees work primarily with hydraulic modelling and also act as internal advisors to the rest of the department. 7 employees focus on planning treatment plant projects, including centralisation and initiation of projects at the treatment plants, in collaboration with operations.

Cross-disciplinary collaboration and helpfulness are central to the team, including when working with colleagues in other professional areas.

The position as Land Surveyor

As Land Surveyor, you get a unique opportunity to become part of Denmark’s second-largest utility. This is a newly created position, giving you significant scope to shape the role yourself.

You will help build an entirely new area of expertise at Novafos. Novafos has until now relied on external land surveyors, but as the workload grows, it has been strategically decided to build up knowledge and experience in-house. Your expertise will be in demand from day one, and your new colleagues will be keen to draw on your professional knowledge for their projects. You will thrive in an organisation where you can build a broad network, both with project managers and with operations.

As Land Surveyor, you will be responsible for mapping a wide range of pipelines and technical installations within the drainage area and preparing declarations. In some cases there will be uncertainty about ownership, cadastral matters, and declarations, so you will also be in dialogue with municipalities and private parties to clarify what actually applies. Your tasks will require both office work and fieldwork, for example inspecting specific pipelines and installations.

You will also need to review old rulings and clarify what was decided and what still applies, including in order to determine matters such as liability for compensation, should this become relevant.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Land Surveyor
• Experience with ownership matters, declarations and cadastral matters
• Knowledge of environmental and wastewater legislation (the Danish Water Sector Act and environmental legislation)
• Knowledge of project management, though not a requirement
• Interest in the utility sector
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
