Senior Frontend Engineer

Bankdata / Full time

Bankdata is a prominent IT company in Denmark, with a history dating back to June 16, 1966, when four employees and the company’s first director, Arne Birkholm, started in small offices in Fynsgade in Fredericia. Their mission was to create smarter accounting solutions for member banks, a project they thought would be quickly completed. Nearly 60 years later, Bankdata is one of Denmark’s major IT companies, with around 900 employees, generating over DKK 1.7 billion in annual revenue. Bankdata’s solutions are used every day by more than 7,500 bank employees, serving nearly 187,000 companies and a total of 1.6 million Danes.

In short, Bankdata provides digital competitiveness to eight Danish financial institutions: Jyske Bank, Sydbank, Ringkjøbing Landbobank, Djurslands Bank, Kreditbanken, Nordfyns Bank, Skjern Bank, and Sparekassen Sjælland-Fyn. They deliver IT systems that are used across Denmark, from the bank app on your smartphone to Denmark’s financial infrastructure.

A significant portion of their revenue is invested in strategic innovation projects that benefit their customers and create value. These projects include tools for bank advisors, self-service solutions for bank customers, integrations with services like mitID and MobilePay, and entirely new products such as a platform for trading complex financial instruments on the international capital market.

Bankdata values flexibility, adaptability to change, and security. Employees at Bankdata are part of a strong community. While they have many team members, they work in smaller, specialized teams following agile principles. You will work in self-organizing teams and have close contact with Bankdata’s customers. Demand for Bankdata’s solutions is high, and they prioritize their tasks to ensure there’s time to recharge outside the office.

About the Department

The Frontend Private/Business Team, under Core Banking and Financial Crime, works centrally at Bankdata and focuses on the development of significant parts of their mobile and online banking. They build many of the systems that allow you to transfer money and view your accounts.

The team operates according to DevOps principles and places great emphasis on testing, alerts, and monitoring of their services. The team covers both backend and frontend development, and everyone is expected to take ownership of the entire solution together. The team has a diverse educational background, but they all share an interest in writing quality code and developing solutions that have a significant impact on the daily lives of Danish citizens.

Bankdata has an informal leadership style and culture, characterized by openness and the freedom to be oneself. You will have a leader who believes in your potential and focuses on your development.

Position

As a Senior Frontend Developer in the Frontend Private/Business Team within Core Banking and Financial Crime, you will leverage your broad knowledge of web and app development to expand their mobile and online banking solutions. You will also collaborate with other teams and developers working on solutions that border your team’s domain. At Bankdata, you’ll experience a dynamic daily routine with exciting tasks continually coming your way.

As a Senior Frontend Developer, you will play a central role in their deliveries. You will develop and build new iterations of Bankdata’s applications. In this role, you will serve as both an architect and developer for what you build. The work is agile and follows DevOps principles, providing opportunities to take responsibility and follow projects from start to finish.

You will be hands-on in implementing elegant solutions to complex problems while also acting as a mentor and sparring partner for your junior colleagues on the team. Your focus will be on customer needs, ensuring that the final product meets the specified requirements and expectations.

Bankdata has a curious culture that values knowledge sharing and personal development highly. You will have ample opportunities to participate in guilds and other knowledge-sharing groups, and you will be able to seek expertise from various places within Bankdata. An essential part of your role is to serve as a frontend mentor on the team, as Bankdata aims to put more focus on frontend development.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Frontend Developer, your responsibilities will span a wide range, including but not limited to:

  • You take pride in writing clean code and establishing “best practices” within your domain.
  • You can plan, estimate, and solve complex technical problems.
  • You support your team with code reviews, testing, and development.
  • You coordinate your efforts with your team and other stakeholders.
  • You contribute to optimizing their development processes and methods.

Professional Experience

Your educational background is not the sole determining factor. What’s most important is that you have substantial experience in frontend development, a strong professional mindset, and a high level of motivation.

As a person, you are proactive and quality-oriented. You possess strong analytical skills, work in a structured manner, and are willing to try new things.

It would be a significant advantage if you have several of the following skills and experiences:

  • Experience with frontend work, e.g., with Angular or similar SPA frameworks.
  • Experience or familiarity with RxJS (Reactive Extensions for JavaScript).
  • Experience with and a desire to work with web development and web architecture.
  • Knowledge of pair programming and a willingness to engage in it.
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles.

Additionally, it would be beneficial if you:

  • Have knowledge or experience with micro frontend architecture and webpack module federation.
  • Have knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
